Who we are
1990-1992 development of an information systeem for soil remediation research at an ICT company. 1992 tot 2018 Assistant and Associate Professor at VU University. From 1992 onwards I have been involved in research on the carbon cycle of wetlands, peatlands and permafrost regions. This includes both measurement campaigns and modelling, including model development 2015 - 2020: Owner Kytalyk Geoscience (now Kytalyk Carbon Cycle Research); various advisory work in Earth Sciences; development of carbon cycle measurement methods
Ko van Huissteden (Utrecht, 2-8-1952). I have studied Physical Geography at VU University in Amsterdam, and received my PhD in 1990 (research on fluvial deposits from the last Ice age in the Netherlands).
After my PhD, I have had a 30 year long career in Earth Sciences:
Corine van Huissteden (Utrecht, 7-5-1987) has studied Forest and Nature Conservation at Wageningen University.
My Bachelors included the minor Education, and the Masters degree includes a minor "Humanity in environment and sustainability".
After my graduation I have contributed to the team Sustainable Agriculture at Greenpeace Netherlands, with research on pesticides. In 2017 I have organized after-school science lessons for primary school children with Mad Science. I worked with WISE Netherlands, campaigning for sustainable energy alternatives.
Nevertheless, I missed research. I like to work on research projects that contribute to solutions for the climate crisis and biodiversity crisis, and projects that improve our knowledge of the ecosystems in which we live.
Wetenschappelijke publicatiesProjects in which Kytalyk Carbon Cycle Research is / has been involved:
Research on erosion and biodiversity loss in a spring marsh (Kastanjedal, Heerlijkheid Beek)) Research on land use alternatives to reduce soil subsidence in agriculturally used peatlands: Innovatieprogramma Veen ) National research programme on greenhouse gas emission reduction in peatlands (NOBV) )
